By: Salimon Quadri, Quazeem Abduljaleel

Sheikh Hassan Bn Abdurrasheed Ikegbami Albarakiy is credited as being one of the first to establish an Arabic and Islamic institution in Mushin, Lagos, in 1995. In this interview, he discusses how it came to be, as well as his goals and aspirations. Excerpts:

What year did the institution open its doors?

The madrasah was founded in 1995 and was previously known as Madrasatu Ikegbami Li-Dirasatil Adabiyyah wal-Islamiyyah before being renamed Madrasatu Husnil Adab Albarakiy on November 25, 2000.

What are the establishment's goals and objectives?

The main goal was to follow in the footsteps of the forerunners after it is well known that all is with the intention of sacrificing to the course of Allah.

How many students did the madrasah have when it first opened?

In 1995, there were roughly 30 pupils available. In 2000, four students were available at Madrasatu Husnil Adab Albarakiy, which was renamed: Abdulnafih, Lukman, Mutawwakil, and Abdulrofih.

When did the first graduation ceremony take place?

The first graduation ceremony was place at Odiolowo Primary School in Idi-oro in 2004.

What is the secret behind the institution's free service?

The reason for this is that parents believe that western education is superior to Islamic education. They give it their whole support while ignoring the one that is more vital. As a result, we regard omitting fund collecting from our service as a way to draw people's attention to the path that is more relevant to them.
Meanwhile, mastering Arabic and Islamic education is the first step toward a better household and country.

How many graduation ceremonies have been held since the institution's inception until now?

There are now 16 graduation ceremonies held.
It began in 2004, 2005, and 2006 (Preliminary), 2007 (High School), 2008 (Preliminary), 2009 (Preliminary & Qur'anic), 2010 (Preliminary), 2012 (Preliminary & High School), and 2013 - 2017 (Preliminary & High School), 2020 (Preliminary), 2021 (Preliminary & High School).

How many students have graduated from the madrasah since it was founded?

There have been no fewer than 70 graduates since the school's inception.

Since its beginnings, how many books has the madrasah published?

The Institution has released 14 books:

• Guiding Issues

• Percussion of Speech

• The Fruit of the Pen

 • Getting the Strings

 • Uprooting Ignorance and Tossing it in the Trash Can

• Guiding Parents and Loved Ones to Insult and Shame Ignorance

What is the institution's vision for the near future?

We're praying to Allah (SWT) to raise the status of our institution like some others in Yoruba land, such as Markaz, Daru Dawah, and others. We also pray to Him to instill in people a passion for Arabiyyah and Islamic education.
